Synoptec Integrator
One of the major challenges in any healthcare system implementation is to ensure that data is not duplicated across systems manually. The patient record required in Synoptec likely already exists in your ADT and scheduling systems.
To bring HL7 messaging capabilities into Synoptec, we've partnered with iNTERFACEWARE to include their industry leading engine, Iguana, with Synoptec. Synoptec has been architected from its inception with the integration of other systems in mind. Synoptec includes a staging database area (API) in which all data from external sources is stored prior to insertion in the production area. This allows external data to be loaded in these tables and validated before it ever interacts with production data providing insulation from bad data. This staging area also ensures that you are not tied to a single vendor for integrating your data - your IT staff can be responsible for integration of from your other healthcare systems without requiring customization of the Synoptec system.
Inbound messages
When a patient is admitted at the facility in the admissions system, Synoptec can receive an ADT message with details about the registration event and create a new patient case in the Synoptec system. If the provider role (i.e. surgeon) is captured during the admission process, then the case can automatically be assigned to them.
Synoptec further supports the SIU (scheduling) HL7 message type. If the patient has been scheduled for surgery (or some other event) then that supporting message can be incorporated into Synoptec again allowing the patient case to be created or updated with that information.
There may be other message types that are sent by your systems that provide additional information to the patient case in Synoptec. With the Iguana HL7 engine used by Synoptec, all standard message types are supported and can be mapped through to the Synoptec database using the API toolkit.
Outbound messages
The outcome report from any care pathway or synoptic report can be sent to remote systems including your EMR via HL7 messaging as soon as it is signed off by the care team member. The systems that might receive this data include provincial or regional EHR systems, physician office systems or health records departments for inclusion in the patient chart. Synoptec provides the ability to manage the triggers that cause a report to be sent (such as sign off by all required resources).
One of the goals of any synoptic reporting system must be to analyze outcomes locally and across regions. In many environments, there are EBI (enterprise business intelligence) tools already in place for analyzing data across disparate systems. These tools must receive the data to be analyzed in a discreet (synoptic) format so that they may be analyzed programatically. Synoptec provides an HL7 message with discreet question and answer combinations to your data warehouse for further analysis without a requirement to read and disassemble a typical operative report.
